Blue Moon offers CSA members a chance to visit the farm every week, walk the gardens, and witness the seasons for themselves. Located just 12 miles from Madison, we are a small farm committed to growing high-quality, delicious vegetables in a way that is sustainable for the land, our community, and ourselves. We are known for the freshness and cleanliness of our produce, and our unique market-style pick-up on the farm. U-pick flowers and herbs are part of your weekly visit, and the farm-raised pastured meats are available to members for purchase. In 2009 we began a Market Share program for customers of our Westside Community Market stand in Madison. This allows families to be a part of the farm community without sacrificing the market experience that some prefer. Members pay ahead for their season of shopping, and purchases are deducted from their card each week.

In 1993, at the sprightly ages of 11 and 9 years old, We, Josh and Noah Engel, had a vision to become a sustainable AND successful organic farm, renowned for producing high quality goods. Entering our 16th farming season, and our 4th year as a CSA farm, we are well on our way to achieving that goal. Join us, from the beginning of June until the middle of October, for a CSA season you are sure to never forget. We shall set forth upon you those vegetable goodies that you just can’t get enough of such as sweet corn, tomatoes, melons and broccoli (plus much, much more!). This year we are excited to offer sunflower oIl shares, organic pastured beef packs and 2 storage boxes in time for the holiday season. All of this, plus a newsletter with recipes and stories from the farm and a fall harvest party too boot—does it get any better than that? We offer every-week shares or every-other week shares and pick up sites are at the Dane County Farmer’s Market, in Viroqua and at our farm. With each weekly share you will receive a newsletter with storage tips and recipes. We also offer day-range chickens, hen adoptions (weekly egg shares), and farm gatherings where you can learn about preserving foods and experience your farm.

We moved here SW of McFarland about twenty years ago and began a garden and an orchard. The land was fertile. Thistles from the horse pasture were chest high. Our goal was to produce an outstanding variety of vegetables and cider. Our garden has always been genuinely organic. Our orchard management strategy has changed and developed, from integrated pest management (IPM) to organic methods which eliminate toxic inputs. Organic management results in vegetables, apples, and cider free from poisons and significantly more nutritious. We received our “USDA Certified Organic” for our vegetables and fruit in January. That is a paper intensive and expensive process. We hope to be a vital contributor of good food and ideas to MACSAC.

Greenspirit Farm is a family-run and family-friendly farm in the beautiful rolling hills of Southwest Wisconsin. We grow a wide selection of high quality, often heirloom and open pollinated, vegetables and small fruits. We strive to move away from the hybrid varieties and the seed companies that support GM technology. As a result you will receive vegetables that are both familiar and those that seem new (but may be very old heirloom varieties) in their colors, shapes and delicious flavors. While not yet certified organic, we pledge always to grow your food in a sustainable way, to treat our land with love, respect and care, and always to remain local. We also pledge to treat you with love, respect, and care: members and visitors are always welcome at the farm. We are here because of you, and we value your presence here. Hilltop's 60 acres, including 25 of restored prairie, overlook the Big Creek valley of NW Sauk County. Working mostly by hand, we provide a limited number of organic, 20-week shares (mid-May to mid-October) typically using less than 1 quart of fuel on-farm per share. Subscribers can expect to receive raspberries, apples, pears, and hardy kiwi in addition to a wide variety of vegetables and herbs. More seasonal fruits may become available as we expand our orchard to include aronia, currants, plums, saskatoons, and grapes. Subscribers may also choose to sign up for our seasonal or monthly cut flower shares and our compost return service--we provide the buckets, you collect your vegetable waste, and we return it to the soil each week. We support re-localizing and redistributing wealth more equitably and therefore accept partial payment in local currency (Madison Hours). Subscriber rebates are also available through participating health insurance providers, as well as cost sharing for subscribers enrolled in MACSAC's Partner Shares program. We encourage and invite our subscribers to join us for on farm celebrations, education workshops and service projects. Pickup is Sundays on N. Baldwin St., east isthmus. As the farmer on this 25 acre farm, my top priority is the quality of the land entrusted to me. If the land is healthy the produce it grows will be healthy too. Although I have over 30 years of gardening experience, 2009 was my first year with MACSAC. It was a very challenging experience! As I continue to grow I remain dedicated to improving the service I provide. As this year’s garden of vegetables, herbs and fruit grow I would like to extend a country invitation,“Y’all come, let’s grow this together!”
Sincerely, your farmer, Michelle Root

Living Soil Community Farm is a small family-run farm located in the Town of Oregon in southern Dane County. It is nestled in a valley of sandy loam soil left by a receding glacial lake. Our vegetables and fruits are grown using natural and sustainable practices. We believe strongly that caring for the soil and the environment grows stronger and better tasting vegetables. Natural soil amendments like compost and rock powders are used to feed the life in our soil, which in turn feeds and protects our plants. Our farm has grown out of our love of gardening. We enjoy growing a large selection of heirloom and modern varieties, especially tomatoes and peppers. The varieties are selected based on flavor and in some cases their unique appearance. Many can’t be found in a typical grocery store, since they don’t meet modern requirements for harvesting before ripe, storage, and traveling half way around the Earth. A benefit of buying local, small farm produce is that you get to experience the wonderful flavors of vegetables harvested when ripe and carefully delivered often on the day they were harvested.

LotFotL is poised for another year of stretching ourselves toward the apex. That’s what growing food demands, a constant ability to meet the challenges posed by nature, by the life cycles of our little plant friends, and by our standards for excellence in anything worth doing. This rather comic dance of ours hatches out 26 weeks of CSA shares, and subsidizes rather heavily a few choice restaurant accounts in Milwaukee. We offer every and every other week shares from Mid May well into November. You will find 8-14 items in every share. We roll through more than 80 different crops in a CSA season, with no items represented more than ½ the distributions. So, what you’ll get is an array of produce that will stretch you out toward your culinary horizons in every share, but won’t be all stretch.
We wholesale potatoes, onions, garlic, broccoli, salad mix, spinach, peppers, tomatoes, and asparagus, and will be sure to give rather hearty helpings of these when in season. We also offer a worker share program, allowing you to, fully or in part, work for your food. We do not currently have CSA drop off locations in the Madison area, but hope to if not in 2010, then soon. We currently distribute to 6 locations in and around Milwaukee, as well as on the farm. In addition to vegetables, we offer Michigan fruit when in season. Grass fed steers graze our pastures in the warm season, and fill our freezers come winter. For more info, check us out at www.lotfotl.com. Thanks for reading, and Happy Eating!

Look to Middlebury Hills for a “back to the basics” produce box. In 2001 we began our farming adventure by reclaiming an abandoned farmstead that sat in the middle of a cow pasture. While we found the place by accident, we were moving with a definite purpose. Our goal was to build a really healthy place to live and grow both food and family. Now, years later, we are living that dream and want to share it with you. During the growing season our family and crew fills over a hundred boxes each week with useful, recognizable, freshly picked produce. Newsletters tell the story of each season as it develops, and recipes are always provided for each new item. In addition to produce, we offer egg and beef shares from neighboring farms. For our whole story and to read archived newsletters and recipes, check our website at middleburyhills.com.

As a certified organic farm, we strive for sustainability in everything we do. The 2010 season will be our 6th season as a CSA farm. We grow about 14 acres of vegetables to supply our 250 CSA shares as well as our customers at the Westside Community Farmers Market. We also have a winter share for those that want to push their local diet into depths of winter. The winter share is an every-other-week delivery that takes place in November and December. You can also visit our stand at the West Side Community Farmers Market on Saturday mornings late April through early November to meet us and see what's in season. We grow over 50 different kinds of vegetables and fruits including strawberries and sweet corn. We are a certified organic farm and have always farmed without the use of synthetic inputs. We focus on healthy soil to produce high quality food. Taking care of the land that we farm is of utmost importance to us. We have set aside a portion of our land to restore to tall grass prairie and we are working on planting trees for hedgerows and wildlife habitat. We are looking for 30 worker shares for the 2010 growing season. Visit our website to learn more about our CSA or to download our registration form.

The Renewal Youth Gardens CSA has been linking area youth to the local sustainable food system for 8 years. Participating youth are paid for their labors while they learn organic growing methods from trained staff and Master Gardener volunteers.
We have two sites: one 2 miles east of Baraboo on St. Rd. 33 and another on the southeast edge of the city. For 18 weeks our customers receive a half share of delicious produce and herbs as well as bouquets of beautiful flowers. They also get a weekly Stalk Report newsletter which contains a short bio on “the student of the week”, a state of the garden update, and recipes targeted to that week’s produce.
Participating youth are majorly involved in all aspects of the CSA from amending the soil with organic matter to starting seedlings and prepping beds to harvesting and delivering the produce. They even teach workshops at our annual fundraiser. We believe our customers get a double value for their investment: they take home delicious, fresh vegetables and herbs and support local youth development.

Ridgeland Harvest is a diverse, certified organic farm owned and run by Cate and Mat Eddy. We are a certified organic farm, raising vegetables, small grains, beef and pork on our 70-acre farm in Southwestern Wisconsin. Join us as we celebrate our 10th season! Our customers depend upon our high quality, staple kitchen items such as carrots, broccoli, onions, garlic, leeks, squash, beets, and cut greens – along with the more unique items we grow like fennel, Swiss chard, heirloom tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, and celeriac.
Our farm has been certified organic since 2004. We strongly believe that synthetic chemicals, fertilizers, and antibiotics are unnecessary when soil is maintained as a living organism. When the soil is healthy, so are the plants that grow from it. We, too, are only as healthy as our source of nourishment: – our food. We feel privileged to grow food and honored to share it with a larger community.
We invite you to be a part of our community and share in the bounty of our harvests. Members are always welcome to visit the farm, and we host several CSA events through the season. Our Garlic Harvest in late July, a Raspberry U-Pick in August, and the Pumpkin Fest in late September are fun ways to be connected to the farm. Cultivate a real relationship with food. Join us!

Dela and Tony Ends family have operated Scotch Hill Farm as a CSA and small-scale livestock farm since 1994. We’re located 30 miles south of Madison midway between Janesville and Monroe. We’ve adapted what was left of a century-old dairy farm, which ceased operation in the 1960s, to organic vegetable crop farming, rehabilitating wooden farm buildings and constructing two green houses and a high tunnel hoop house. A Frontera Foundation grant in 2009 upgraded our well, ran water lines to our greenhouses and tripled our capacity for irrigation. We grow more than 60 varieties of certified organic vegetables including heirloom varieties. We plant and tend about 40 acres of certified organic land, including rotations of hay, small grains and vegetable crops.
Our dairy goats, sheep, and poultry enjoy organic feed and several acres of pasture. We offer family shares, double shares for large families, flower shares and fall shares, delivered with a hybrid SUV and trailer. Farm pick-up shares are discounted. Regular newsletters include recipes and news from the farm. Members are welcome to visit and participate in farm events including our weed, wine and cheese parties. Our farmstead milk soap can be ordered and delivered with your share, along with yogurt, cheese, eggs and other farmstead foods from neighboring farms during the season. Visit our website for prices and delivery locations. We are longtime steering committee members of the state-line Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training and Farm Beginnings programs.

We are a small family of first-generation farmers nourishing an old farm back to health again. At a young age we discovered our passion for working with plants, revitalizing soil health and exploring the interconnected nature of how various farm systems can complement each other. We believe that true sustainability is achieved from a farm that raises both plants and animals that synergistically work with each other.
We recognize the diminishing link between eaters and their food. Born and raised city-folk ourselves we aim to connect, communicate and complement each other economically through our CSA program with our farm members. Members are welcome to visit the farm anytime and attend our Fall CSA Potluck where all members and friends of the farm are welcome to spend an afternoon on the farm touring, socializing and eating.
Join the Small Family CSA Farm in their 5th season as a CSA farm and take a ride with us through one growing season in its entirety. Eat seasonal food that is grown in your bio-region. Read the weekly newsletters and share with the farmers the realities of life on the farm, savored recipes, weekly photographs and details of what's in your weekly CSA box. We offer a '20 Week Regular Size' share delivery and a 'Fall Share' option. Pick-up at the Farm, Viroqua, Dubuque, Galena, La Crosse, West Salem, Sparta or in Madison at Centro Hispano on Badger St. or at Regent Street Co-op.

Sprouting Acres is a small community supported agriculture farm located 20 miles Southeast of Madison in between Stoughton and Cambridge. We have been providing families with fresh seasonal produce since 2004. Our CSA is 22 weeks long and runs from late-May to late-October. We grow a wide variety of heirloom, open pollinated, and some hybrid vegetables and fruits, as well as fall raspberries. We offer a limited number of flower shares which last 12 weeks and offer cage free, day range eggs. Sprouting Acres continues to be committed to sustainable agriculture and will be certified Organic this year. We have drop-off sites in East/West Madison as well as farm pickup. Visit our stand at the Eastide Market on Tuesdays and the downtown market on Saturdays. We are always looking for worker-shares. We are MACSAC’s first meat CSA, offering year-round monthly deliveries of beef, pork, lamb, and chicken. When you join our farm you are supporting a vibrant animal community that nurtures both beast and land. We raise old breeds in danger of being lost to the increasing pressures of modern agriculture. Our sheep and cattle graze lush organic pastures. Our chickens roam the pastures in search of insects and other tasty morsels. Our pigs dig and wallow to their hearts’ content. Our method of farming is also environmentally friendly. We protect fragile wetlands from damaging run-off and shelter grassland birds like the bobolink. We believe that the extra care we take with our land and animals adds to the quality and flavor of our meats. When you join our farm you can expect a freezer filled with delicious, healthy meats that you can pull out any day of the week for a restaurant experience right in your own home.

We have been growing certified organic food on Madison’s northside since 2001, and we are proud to be the city’s first urban farm. Troy Community Farm is part of Troy Gardens - a 31-acre parcel that was saved from development by the extraordinary efforts of northside neighbors, and is now home to the farm, a prairie, trails, community gardens, a kids' garden, and a 30-unit co-housing community. Since we are right in Madison, our members visit our farm-stand-style pick-up at Troy Gardens each Thursday evening. They talk with the farmers, choose their own vegetables from the harvest, take a newsletter, and pick their own flowers and herbs from the CSA garden. Learn more, see photos of our shares from the past five seasons, and read our weekly newsletters at our website: www.troygardens.org. The website will also introduce you to our educational programs and the other unique facets of Troy Gardens.

Two Good Farms CSA is a cooperative effort between two certified organic family farms: the McDowell family operates both McDowell Fresh Produce and J’s Veggie Patch at Montello, and the Zander family operates Emerald Meadows at Columbus. Our goal is to create a community of families: our two families growing and providing great tasting nutritious, organic food for your family. Member families provide us with the opportunity to continue doing what we love – farming in a way that is healthy for all families, farms, and communities.
-The McDowell Family—
Our family has been living on and working the home farm since 1853. Currently we have three generations working on the farm – Paul, wife, Sarah, kids, Grace, Andrew, Johnny, and Paul’s parents, Tom and Juanita. Our family has always been very active in agriculture, having served/participated in many organizations: FFA (national proficiency award for veggies), cooperative board members, and even a former State Secretary of Agriculture.
I (Paul) started farming at age 14, continuing our family’s long history of growing vegetables. In 1995, Sarah and I married, and we have been farming together since. You may have visited with Sarah and Juanita at the Dane County Farmers’ Market, where we have been vending for over 20 years.
We transitioned our 400 acre farm to organic in 2003, and have been working at building up the soil to produce nutrient-dense, great tasting produce, crops, and pork. We are proud to be certified organic, and new members of MACSAC. We look forward to providing your family with wholesome produce and pork this year.
-Zander Family Farm/Emerald Meadows—
Our family, consisting of Tim, Claire, Elliot, Lily, and George, started in 1994. In 1998 we moved to our current location in Columbus and had our first fields certified organic. At this time we farm 180 acres. Our farm is very diversified – we grow many different cereal grains, forages, fruits, herbs, and vegetables as well as occasionally raising chickens for both meat and eggs. Our farm is enrolled in the Conservation Security Program (CSP) program at the highest level for conserving natural resources such as air, soil, water, and wildlife. We are active in our community, working with neighbors, 4-H, and the UW Madison. We sell at the Sun Prairie, Monona, and Eastside farmers’ markets.
Our CSA will run for 20 weeks offering all of your favorite products such as sweet corn, melons, berries, green beans, tomatoes, greens, and herbs – over 100 varieties in all with egg, chicken, and storage shares also available. We have pick up at the farm in Columbus and in Madison at the Eastside farmers’ market.

Zephyr Group Garden, MACSAC farm since 2003

With three acres in cultivation and about a dozen households in Stoughton and Madison, the members of Zephyr Group Garden (ZIGG) have banded together to share both the work and the bounty of the crops. We use a worker cooperative model in which all members collaborate as growers while the farm maintains traditional crop production. We have a strong focus on growing vegetables for preservation, although we can't resist a few delicious fresh eating items as well. Crops are harvested and distributed as they ripen; there are no weekly deliveries to drop-off sites.
