Tour southern Wisconsin's countryside, while having fun connecting to great food and MACSAC CSA farms as we raise funds for our Partner Shares Program and awareness of local, sustainable agriculture.

Bike the Barns: MACSAC's Second Annual Tour de CSA will be held Saturday, September 27, 2008. This exciting bike tour will take riders to community supported agriculture (CSA) farms around south-central Wisconsin while raising money to support the Partner Shares Program.

The ride will be fueled with gourmet local food and farm tours, including breakfast, snacks, and lunch prepared by the Underground Food Collective, Cafe Soleil, and other star cooks from our local food system--all included in the $50 registration fee. Or if you're not up for the ride, join us for lunch for just $25.

All proceeds will our Partner Shares Program, a unique initiative aimed at reducing hunger, improving nutrition and supporting local farmers in south central Wisconsin. Since the program's inception in 1997, the Partner Shares Program has made fresh local food available through financial assistance to more than 2,300 underserved and low-income households.

Riders will travel along a route that most recreational cyclists can comfortably ride. Smaller groups will be traveling at different paces. The full ride is 62 miles but a shorter 25 mile ride is an option for riders who can arrange for pickup at our lunch stop at Blue Sky Berry Farm in Brooklyn.

Bike the Barns is one way that MACSAC aims to raise awareness of CSA farms in Wisconsin. MACSAC is committed to creating a sustainable, just and locally based food system by promoting and supporting CSA farms and their members. This year more than 12,000 people are receiving local, sustainably grown foods through membership in one of MACSAC's 34 member farms.
